Small importers can source New Zealand skincare by working with independent NZ brands rather than large ones. Independent makers are often more flexible on first order size, more open to market exclusivity, and easier to reach through a single New Zealand partner who checks their documents and capacity first.
Why New Zealand skincare
New Zealand has a strong reputation for clean, natural and carefully made products. Many independent NZ makers focus on gentle formulas for sensitive skin, which suits shoppers in hot, humid climates who want simple routines.
Why independent brands suit smaller importers
Large brands usually want large minimum orders and already have distributors in place. Independent makers are often happy to start with a smaller first order, and some will consider exclusivity for your market. That gives a small importer a product the big chains do not have.
Documents you will need
Expect to need a commercial invoice, packing list and, for free trade benefits, a certificate of origin. For cosmetics you will also need the maker's product documents to file local notification or registration. In Thailand, for example, the importer files cosmetic notification with the Thai FDA.
Duty and free trade agreements
New Zealand has free trade agreements covering ASEAN countries, including AANZFTA, and an economic cooperation agreement with Taiwan. With the right certificate of origin, these can reduce or remove import duty on many goods. Check the tariff line for each product with your customs broker.
Shipping a first order
First orders often go by air because volumes are small and speed helps you test the market. As orders grow, sea freight, usually shared container (LCL), lowers the cost per unit.
